Business Card – Bad to Wow

When it comes to first impressions, a firm handshake and your business card can be the difference between a new client or a failed meeting. At a first glance you may not realize a badly designed business card but let us point out the differences.
Above is a sample of an average business card. You may not realize it but this design is unorganized, cluttered and sends the client mixed messages. First off, there is no focal point. The graphic element located in the center of the card is distracting and pulls the attention away from the important information.
All of the text carry the same weight which prevents any distinct hierarchy within the card.
Here are simple yet effective solutions to fix the problems of this design.
- Utilize both sides of the card. By using only one side you are limiting the real estate for design possibilities.
- Isolate the logo and flood the background with green. By doing so you can give a more impactful statement with you identity.
- With the same approach as the logo, giving the contact information it’s own space lends itself to improved readability.
- Centering the contact information keeps the design integrity of the entire card consistent.
These are just a few simple solutions for this business card. There are always multiple solutions to a design problem. The key factors to keep in mind are constancy, brand identity, and readability.
