With the approach of “no om, chanting or any of that spiritual stuff”, we were given the unique opportunity to re-brand Sports Yoga Hawaii. Founder and coach, David Onoue, came to the table with an open mind and a desire to re-brand his company. Strong emphasis was made to stay away from the typical spiritual/feminine image that yoga is commonly associated with. David’s inspiration and key concepts provided a base for us as we worked through our design process and developed a mark that symbolizes a new, modern style of fitness training and exercise.

Project // Multi-page Brochure

Bowers + Kubota came to us with the task of designing a marketing brochure that they could give clients in their initial meetings. The brochure needed to reflect the B+K's philosophy as well as showcase the numerous projects they managed.

The layout of the brochure drew inspiration from the modern architecture of their newly completed Waipahu office and also their sustainable approach to design and construction. The openness of the layout allowed the FSC Certified paper to show, further emphasizing B+K's commitment to sustainability.

The client came to us with hopes that we can create a piece that respected this sensitive subject matter. With this in mind, we wanted to create a piece that was empathetic to the readers. The content follows a story format, and we chose to make the dimensions of the piece similar to a greeting card. Watercolor floral and abstract background textures were used to create a soft yet expressive overall appearance. We also incorporated elements such as handwritten notes and journal paper to give the piece a personal feel.

Project // Walk Wise Hawaii Pedestrian Safety Display

Pedestrian Safety Month was meant to educate Hawaii's public on the prevention of pedestrian fatalities. The concept behind the display was to show how "walking wise" gets you home safely. As a memorial and educational tool, the 10 foot wide display shows 145 pairs of slippers that make up the welcome mat representing the lives lost. The oversized slippers symbolized the one who "walked wise" and got home safe. We overcame the challenge of portability by using a collapsible display. Magnetic panels were pieced together to make the final image. We conquered the second challenge of giant-slipper-fabrication with creativity and perseverance. One slipper consisted of 4 tiled foam mats, 1 PVC sheet and 1 rubber cord concealer.
